“Gloria” About Midnight - 14.0hh 2015 Grade Gypsy-cross Pony Mare

“Gloria” is a world class hugger and a real expert in drying tears packaged in a cute, stocky frame with nice gaits and gorgeous color to boot! As sweet as her face is, her eyes are even more beautiful and awash with a deep golden color.

She is excellent as standing patiently and safely when handling her feet, great for the farrier, ties very well, has no fear of loud noises, cars, traffic noise, animals (donkeys, dogs, cats, etc), tarps - we really can’t find anything she will spook at! She loads, leads in and out of the pasture, stands great for the vet/needles, and halters, saddles, and bridles proficiently. She can either live inside or out 24/7. She is low on the totem pole and submissive to other horses.

“Gloria” is an expert in ground work - she is great at lunging (especially over raised poles), knows basic Parelli concepts, enjoys linking up at liberty, and can move off of pressure laterally. She also ground drives/long lines well (she had an aversion to long lining for the first couple minutes, but quickly regained composure and appeared to be well versed in the exercise) - her transitions, vocal commands, and changes of direction in the long lines are fabulous.

She has beautiful, clean legs and joints that flex sound, no history of injury or lameness, clear, bright eyes, excellent feet, a clean back that palpates well, and clear lungs. She has been aged by a previous vet 10-12y/o. She has not been bred.

“Gloria” will require a program of some type for under saddle work and for bathing. She can be inconsistent and lacks confidence in both areas, though she has never offered to rear, buck, kick, flip, etc. She is absolutely wonderful for mounting and seems willing to learn. We believe she is an out-of-work trail pony or driving pony. Though she’s not a “square one” type, she needs a kind and patient partner. For this reason, we are listing her as a “semi-project” pony to ensure she has the best chance of success.

A wonderful and caring home for Gloria is our top priority. We would love for her to find a home with a young person, a handy adult, or a professional who would like to add to their string.

  • Gloria appears to be most steady and confident under saddle when she is close to other horses or a person on the ground.

    Without a “safety blanket,” sometimes she will behave normally, other times she will suddenly become nervous and “scoot” - forward or backwards. Even when she’s nervous, she will listen when you ask for a halt, but finds it difficult to “get out of it” once she’s scared.

    She seems to have solid aids when she’s relaxed. She has never threatened anything truly dangerous (rear, buck, bite, kick, flip).

    She has responded well to consistency and patience since being in the program. Likely, the fix is simply time and repetition.

    She’s great to mount and dismount. She is absolutely not a mean or dangerous horse.

  • We are not sure if Gloria has ever had a bath prior to our program. She seems genuinely confused and overwhelmed by the sound and sensation of the hose water on her skin. She wiggles around until the bath is over. She has never threatened to kick or bite during a bath. She is more insecure about water on her left side than her right. We hold her by hand instead of cross tying her in the wash rack.

  • She goes well in a 4.5in full cheek.

    She currently wears a minimalistic medium-wide dressage saddle.

  • She has free choice grass hay 24/7.

    She gets a 1 scoop of Triple Crown Growth twice a day.

  • We believe she is a grade Gypsy-cross.

  • She has intact feet, cool, tight legs and joints, an open chest, clear lungs, clear eyes, and has recently jogged off sound for flexion of upper and lower limbs. She has shown no signs of lameness or loss of function.

    She is missing a molar on the right side.
