“Iggy” Lust For Life
2017 15.1hh Bay Roan QH-cross Gelding
Iggy has a very special story.
On the way home from meeting him, we came up with the show name “Lust For Life” as a nod to his bright, positive nature and curiosity. We loved his personality, and we couldn’t wait to get him home.
Just days after arriving to our program, he fell ill with a viral infection. But, there was something about him — a fight, a spark — that told us that he wasn’t ready to leave this world. With the help of our generous farm owner, our awesome vet, and the incredible team at Michigan State, we got him to the hospital and gave Iggy every resource and all the time he needed to make a full recovery.
His name, Lust For Life, says it all.
While making a living matters, what matters more to us is that every horse who comes through our program gets a good life. That’s our promise. Iggy is being offered at a loss — and that’s okay. What matters is that he’s healthy, happy, and ready for a second chance with someone who will give him the kind of life he deserves. And just like with every horse we place, we’ll be making a donation in his name to an equine charity upon his sale.
Iggy has been closely monitored since his recovery — routine bloodwork, physicals, and vet care — and he has completely recovered and is thriving. This is NOT a chronic condition. We’re happy to share all details with serious buyers.
Iggy is beautifully built, athletic, with elegant gaits and a unique roan color splashed with silver and chrome. He’s stout and broad with great bone, tied together in a way that’s both functional and eye-catching.
Sound, hardworking, and enthusiastic about learning, Iggy is a joy to ride and live with. He goes comfortably in both English and Western tack. He’s naturally forward and driven, but not flighty, overly sensitive, or unsafe.
He’s got great brakes, doesn’t pull on the reins or fuss, and has a sense of humor—he can take a joke and keep on going. AA- and JR-friendly, with the stamina to work all day. Iggy could even double as a husband horse for someone comfortable with forward motion. He has excellent feet, great skin, and currently goes barefoot in a simple snaffle.
Iggy has a solid foundation rooted in real-world ranch work—he started his life working cattle, checking fences, and logging long trail miles. That honest background shows in his confidence and reliability.
Since coming to our program, he’s been introduced to small courses and basic dressage, including lateral work, and he’s taken to it all with enthusiasm. He’s road safe, hacks out alone or with company, and truly enjoys liberty work and groundwork. Iggy also ponies other horses and can be ponied himself without any drama. He’s steady, sensible, and genuinely fun to ride with forward energy for a rider who wants a versatile partner.
Iggy is truly versatile. Ideal for someone wanting to do a bit of everything. Would be suitable for:
