“Leona” Dama Leona (Baptistry X Man From Eldorado)
2013 16hh Bay Thoroughbred Mare
Not one single bad word can be said about this fantastic mare! Not only is she easy on the eyes, but she is also brimming with a gentle, kind, and willing personality. Leona is the epitome of an “old school” Thoroughbred - broad, sturdy, great bone, soft eyes, perfect angles and a big, beautiful head. She is up for any activity, whether or not she is worked every day or once in a while.
Seriously - she is THAT girl!
Leona is happy to work in the sandbox on her circles, leg yields, transitions, halts and bending. She is lovely and soft in the mouth, she actively searches for the hand, and really wants to do the job right. Her gaits are compact and very rideable for an AA or JR. Go ahead and sit deep - she really doesn’t mind!
She also jumps both in the arena and outside over natural elements. She has not once batted an eye at any jump since being in the program, and is more than willing to fit in strides to a crummy distance. She jumps straight, honest and to the point. She would be a great hunter and equitation duel mount.
Leona is as gentle on the ground as she is under saddle. She is very quiet in the crossties, fantastic in the wash rack, great for needles, and has no objections to handling. She trailers great as well.
She is great for hacking out and trail riding, and is not looky at anything - cars, animals, people, other horses. She also lunges and long lines very well - she keeps the pace without slowing down or rushing. She loves pole work too!
After her slow racing career, she was restarted as a general riding and jumping horse, then had a couple foals. She’s been treated very well her entire life, obvious by her fantastic physical condition and mental softness. She carries a few of the greats in her pedigree - Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector being the most notable. With her striking good looks, beautiful personality and pedigree - it’s no wonder she was bred!
Leona enjoys a simple life in the program - she has 24/7 access to forage, turn-out all day long with her friends (she is very submissive and low on the totem pole), a handful of ration balancer twice a day, and works a few times a week. She uses very simple tack.
She has solid (and barefoot!) feet, cool, tight legs and joints, and clear lungs and eyes. She shows no sign of lameness, inconsistency of gait, limitations, or loss of function.

An average of 6. She doesn’t have much of a spook response and she’s calm about most visual and audio stimuli that other horses would find scary. She responds well to new experiences, and is highly adaptable. She hacks out well on a long rein. She does not bolt/rear/buck.
