“Lucy” One Dreams Lucy

(Beyond Blonde X Way West (FR))

2023 16.2hh Dark Bay/Black Thoroughbred Mare

ON COMMISSON

Meet Lucy, one of the most naturally gifted and talented young horses we’ve ever had in our program thus far. She has a unique story, which makes her an excellent candidate for a sport career.

Lucy has been hand-raised by a single owner her entire life. She has been exposed to everything and anything since birth. She’s always had great handling, excellent nutrition, medical care, farrier care, dental care, daily care, and positive experiences. Along with her exceptional breeding, the result is a beautiful, mature, sound, balanced and confident young mare with the whole world awaiting her.

We are lucky to have spent a lot of time with her prior to listing. She has been in our training program since August of 2025. By the time it was backing day (her birthday), it was a walk in the park. She never once lost her cool or balance. Since then, she has been developing her gaits and transitions, working on bending, hacking out around the farm, popping over a couple small jumps, playing “soccer” with a giant ball, and has even played lesson pony with a JR. She knows her leads, she knows some basic verbal commands, and she’s learning some basic lateral aids.

Lucy has a beautiful, swinging walk, a toe-flicking trot, and a slow, uphill, rhythmical canter. Her gaits are much more mature than her actual age. She is learning to find the contact and drive from behind. She very rarely spooks at anything, she is remarkably level-headed under saddle. She is accepting of the leg, seat, and hand. Her topline is quite the sight: it’s upward development is truly shocking for her age.

Because she has been in professional training with us for almost a year, she has had the opportunity to become proficient in lots of activities, including lunging, long lining, raised poles, tarp training, Parelli basics, hill work, and in-hand work.

Part of what makes Lucy so unique is her heritage: her sire, Beyond Blonde, is a TRUE palomino Thoroughbred who was successful as a jumper and dressage horse, and her dam has also produced palominos. This means Lucy carries the possibly of producing a palomino foal. Her half-siblings by Beyond Blonde are successfully developing as hunters, eventers, and dressage horses.

We believe that Lucy would be an excellent hunter or dressage prospect, and also an excellent candidate for a sport breeding program. She is a quality young horse truly deserving of a sport and/or breeding career with expansive opportunity. To thrive, she requires an experienced handler and an involved, consistent program.

She has solid (and barefoot!) feet, cool, tight legs and joints, and clear lungs and eyes. She shows no sign of lameness, inconsistency of gait, limitations, or loss of function.

FAQs

  • Lucy, like a lot of young horses, can be pushy and opinionated on the ground. As she matures, this is resolving. However, this has not been an issue at all under saddle!

She travels well, loads, bathes, clips, stands for vet/farrier, lunges, stands in the cross ties, leads in and out from turnout, etc.

  • She goes well in a Myler eggbutt.

She currently wears a minimalistic medium-wide jumping saddle.

  • She has free choice grass hay 24/7.

She gets 1 scoop of Triple Crown Growth twice daily.

  • On the ground, Lucy can be described as about a 7. She can “test” her handler’s boundaries at times and push into humans’ space. However, under saddle she is more of a 3.5. She is remarkably level-headed and calm. She very rarely spooks or even looks. You can really put a lot of leg on her without objections.

  • She is Beyond Blonde X Way West (FR).

She also carries Secretariat and Mr. Prospector.
