"James Brown" Baagy (Tamarkuz X Marju)
2019 17.0 Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
This is the big, long-legged, naturally gifted, good-natured, rugged athlete that is bred to the 9’s and is willing to take you all the way! Mr. Brown is the type of horse who would happily work with you all day long, but is cool enough to leave sit for days at a time without coming back to all your ridden work undone. Enough cannot be said about this horse - from his lovely, uphill gaits to his sweet, in-your-pocket personality - he will be someone’s horse of a lifetime who wants to be successful just as much as his rider does.
In the ring, he’s all business. He’s the “born on the bit” type, and understands contact with the hand very well. His gaits are lofty, swinging, uphill and fun to ride (his walk is a huge highlight for any dressage rider), he is incredibly proficient at bending, and he is beginning to develop a sense of lateral movement in the shoulders and the haunches. He is started over small fences in the arena and natural elements in the field. He’s very careful, and tends to over-jump. Seriously, this guy is a blast!
Mr. Brown stands very well for the vet and the farrier, leads in and out from the pasture, and ties and cross ties. He is a lovely partner for a hack/trail ride - can be ridden out on the buckle. He’s not looky, and tolerates vehicles very well. He has done very well with mounted opening gates, opening doors, handing objects, etc. In our program, we expose all of our horses to practical, real life scenarios as much as we can.
His pedigree is absolutely jaw dropping. His sire, Tamarkuz, is best known for his 2016 Breeder’s Cup Dirt Mile win and carries all the greats in his pedigree - Storm Cat (our favorite sire), Mr. Prospector, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Northern Dancer. James’ paternal grandsire, Speightstown, needs no introduction - he has been one of the nation’s leading sires, is known for producing phenomenal sporthorses, and has produced some of the most successful racing offspring of the 2000’s and 2010’s.
James’ routine is very simple - he lives outside (but also stalls extremely well), eats a simple mix of grain 2 times a day, and loves to graze and be with his buddies. He’s low on the totem pole, greets you at the gate, and is easy to halter. He lunges well, is happy to participate in ground pole activities, and is ridden in simple tack.
He has solid feet, cool, tight legs and joints, and clear lungs and eyes. He shows no sign of lameness, inconsistency of gait, or loss of function.

An average of 6.5 to 7. He doesn’t have much of a spook response and he’s calm about most visual and audio stimuli that other horses would find scary. He responds well to new experiences, and is highly adaptable. He hacks out well on a long rein.
He can be described as a very forward horse, with a lot of drive to succeed. Though he is very forward and doesn’t take much driving leg, he is still reasonable and is easy to communicate with. He does not bolt/rear/buck.
